Living in East Passyunk, Philadelphia

South Philadelphia
restaurantsyoungwalkablenightlife

East Passyunk Avenue cuts diagonally across the neighborhood's grid, and the fountain plaza partway down the avenue marks the start of a dining strip dense enough to anchor a night out without ever leaving the block. Restaurants and bars line the avenue end to end, from long-running BYOBs to newer cocktail spots, and the Broad Street Line sits within easy walking distance for anyone headed downtown or catching a game at the stadiums further south along the same line.

The same restaurant density that makes the avenue a destination also means weekend dinner-hour sidewalks get crowded and street parking near the fountain all but disappears by early evening, pushing plenty of diners a few blocks out onto the residential side streets to find a spot before their reservation. The rowhome blocks just off the avenue stay noticeably calmer than the strip itself.

East Passyunk fits someone who wants a serious restaurant scene within a five-minute walk and doesn't mind circling the block once or twice on a Saturday night to find a parking spot before settling in for dinner among neighbors doing exactly the same thing.
