Gas Works Park spreads across a bluff on Lake Union's north shore, its rusted boiler house and cracking towers left standing from the site's decades as a coal gasification plant and turned into a favorite spot for kite-flying and skyline views across the water. Wallingford Center anchors the neighborhood's commercial strip inside a converted schoolhouse, its wood-framed halls now holding shops and a food court beneath high classroom ceilings. North 45th Street runs the length of the neighborhood past a row of coffee shops, bakeries, and casual restaurants, with Craftsman bungalows filling the residential blocks on either side. Meridian Playground and a handful of smaller parks give families green space within a short walk of most houses, and the University District's shops and the Burke-Gilman Trail sit just beyond the neighborhood's eastern edge.

Gas Works Park's open lawn draws crowds on clear days, and both the free lot and the nearby street parking fill early, leaving latecomers to park several blocks off.

A slow lap through Gas Works Park, coffee on 45th Street, and a browse through Wallingford Center's shops fill an unhurried day without much reason to leave the neighborhood.
